Gaming
When is Starlink slowest for games?
Starlink's help center defines peak hours as 6 pm to 11 pm local time, when speeds can be slower. If ranked play matters, notice whether your rough matches cluster in that window. Fixing lag.
Can I use cloud gaming like GeForce NOW on Starlink?
Usually. NVIDIA GeForce NOW requires under 80 ms latency to an NVIDIA data center and recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Wire the PC or console and expect the best results outside peak hours. Cloud gaming guide.
How big are game downloads, and will they count against a limit?
Starlink warns that video game updates can be over 100 GB. Starlink’s Residential plans have unlimited data, so they won’t. Downloads guide.
NAT type and consoles
Why does my Xbox or PS5 say Moderate or Strict NAT on Starlink?
On its default IPv4 setting, Starlink puts customers behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) using shared addresses from 100.64.0.0/10, so your router does not get its own public IPv4 address. Consoles that can’t accept incoming IPv4 connections report a stricter NAT type. IPv6 may help where the console and game use it (our reading: Starlink doesn’t say whether inbound IPv6 reaches devices behind its router). NAT type explained.
Does Starlink support IPv6?
Starlink supports native IPv6 on every Starlink router, kit version and plan, including Residential.
Can I open my NAT type with router settings on a home plan?
Not on the IPv4 side. Starlink's own routers cannot do port forwarding; you need your own router plus a public IP (a Priority plan) to forward ports, and a public IPv4 address is an option only on the Local Priority and Global Priority plans, not on Residential. Starlink's help center does not say whether Starlink routers support UPnP. What does help.
How do I plug my console in with a cable?
Use a LAN port on the Starlink router. Router 3 has a WAN port and two LAN Ethernet ports under a rubber cover. Router Mini has two Ethernet ports: one WAN and one LAN. On Wi-Fi, Starlink says to put gaming consoles, 4K TVs and computers on the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Console setup.
TV
What’s the cheapest way to get local channels with Starlink?
An antenna, where you’re in range of local towers. Free over-the-air TV does not need an internet connection, so it costs nothing after you buy it and uses no data. Live-TV streaming services also carry locals in most markets. Local channels guide.
Why do my local channels show the wrong city on Starlink?
Starlink says its IP geolocation can be several states away from your real location. Apps that set your market from your IP address can get it wrong. Fixes by service.
Can I keep DISH and add Starlink?
Yes. DISH: place a Starlink dish at least 10-20 ft from your DISH TV antenna. DISH sells and installs Starlink but does not offer a DISH TV + Starlink bundle. Starlink and DISH.
